NMRN Membership Book Talk: ‘Vanguard : The True Stories of the Reconnaissance and Intelligence Missions behind D-Day’ - Thursday, 11th July 2019, 10.30am, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

Military historian and former Royal Marine Commando David Abrutat joins us for a talk on his newly published book ‘Vanguard : The True Stories of the Reconnaissance and Intelligence Missions behind D-Day’ on Thursday, 11th July at 10.30am in the Princess Royal Gallery, National Museum of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

Operation Overlord, the opening up of an Allied second front by the invasion of the Normandy beaches in June 1944 was the largest military invasion of all time, but it was preceded by years of industrial scale intelligence collection and dangerous clandestine reconnaissance missions off the French coast.

The stories of the intelligence and reconnaissance missions behind D-Day go back to 1940, and are told for the first time in David’s newly published book ‘Vanguard’.
